How To Trade
First, though: why should I trade?
- Free advertising and exposure. If I choose your trade, I’ll spill a few paragraphs talking about who you are, and if you’re a business I’ll talk about your business, link to you from my front page, etc. (If you want privacy, though, I’ll honor that.)
- It’s a way to help a lot for very little cost. Just offer something a little more valuable than what I’ve got to trade. It doesn’t have to be much, but each increase in value gets me closer to my goal, and you’ll still get something pretty interesting in return.
The logistics
I’ll take a few days to choose my swapping partner from all the offers I get for a particular item. The final decision is mine.
Offers can be anything – use your imagination. It’s definitely not limited to Phillies stuff or sports stuff.
Here are my criteria, in no special order. Trades should be:
- Interesting. I don’t know the cash value of, say, having the Phillie Phanatic come to your workplace, and dirty-dance with your boss. And I’m not saying that’s ever going to be offered to trade. But if it was, I would probably accept that trade in return for pretty much anything. How cool would that be? I would definitely be able to turn around and trade that to somebody else for something even more interesting/valuable. And I would be sad to have to do that, but it’s for ALS.
- Local. This is mostly Philly-oriented, to help with the logistics of actually taking possession of things. If I heard that Barack Obama is offering a chance to play hoops one-on-one with him down in DC, or that somebody in NYC wants to trade me some big expensive New York thing, I’d have to consider those offers, but preference will be given to local trades.
- Legit. If you creep me out with your offer of a good old-fashioned Juniata Park back-shavin’, thanks but no thanks. Offer me real stuff that people would want and that you own or can deliver.
- Bigger and Better. Offer something in trade that’s more valuable than the thing I have.
